BALI IDC OWSI Program

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor programme is your final step in your quest to become a PADI instructor. During the IDC, you’ll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to meet individual student needs. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors may conduct a broad range of programmes from Discover Scuba Diving to Divemaster.

PADI IDC Pre-requisites

To qualify to enter the Assistant Instructor course, you must:

• Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or have an equivalent rating.
• Have completed and logged at least 60 dives as documented by your logbook, including night, deep and navigation dives.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have been a certified diver for at least six months.

To qualify to enter the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course, you must:

• Be certified as a PADI Assistant instructor or be an instructor in good standing with another training organization for at least six months.
• Have completed and logged at least 60 dives as documented by your logbook including night, deep and navigation dives.
• Be at least 18 years old at the start of the course.
• Submit medical clearance for diving signed by a doctor, confirming fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months.
• Have proof of CPR training within the last 24 months.
• Be certified as EFR Instructor previous to certification as an OWSI.

Note: Proof of 100 dives is a pre-requisite for attending the Instructor Exams (IE)

• Divemaster Course
• Diver Retention Programs
• How to Teach the RDP (Instructors from recreational diver training organizations other than PADI must complete.)

You will demonstrate competence at

• performing all 24 dive skills listed on the Skill Evaluation.
• performing a facedown, nonstop swim for 800 metres/yards using a mask, snorkel and fins.

During the course you’ll need to demonstrate competency in Dive theory by passing a five-part theory exam scoring a minimum of 75% on each part.

What You Can Teach

After becoming an Open Water Scuba Instructor, you will be able to conduct the entire range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba Diving up to Divemaster. You may also choose to acquire specialty instructor ratings in areas of interest, such as Wreck, Deep, Enriched Air or one of the other many options we provide.
